About Us
Our History God gave Bishop William L. Sheals (Hopewell Norcross) a vision to plant a church in another part of Gwinnett County and he asked us (Min. Gerard and Min. Veta Blanding) to plant it. After two years of prayer and waiting on God’s perfect timing, Hopewell North East was established. Our beginnings started with 14 people. The Blandings heard from God that the church should be planted in Grayson, Georgia. After a successful search for a church location, we met with then Pastor R C King of Heritage Baptist Church in July 2010; the former Pastor of the church which had been unoccupied since June 27, 2010. From July until October of 2010 we were longsuffering. We fasted, prayed and waited on the Lord, and never lost faith that this would be our home. During this process, even though the church building was never placed on the market, Pastor King showed the building to 24 churches; of which several placed offers. The Board of Heritage Baptist Church and its’ members prayed that we would occupy their former facility and God showed us favor. Throughout the process, we never stopped praying and believing. When obstacles occurred or we received a “No” response, Pastor Gerard would say, “I don’t believe that this is the end”. Isaiah 43 says it best, “I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”. On Sunday, October 17, 2010, The Blandings were pre-installed at Hopewell (Norcross) as Pastors of Hopewell North East, Grayson, Georgia. On Sunday October 31, 2010 we held our very first service; not knowing ‘what’ to expect or ‘who’ to expect. But praise God ~ at 11:00 a.m. when our doors opened, 200 family members, friends, people in the community and founding members were in attendance. On Sunday, December 12, 2010 the formal installation service of Hopewell North East Missionary Baptist Church was held – To God be the glory! The church God planted was right around the corner, ten minutes away from our home, which resulted in our church motto: “Right Around the Corner-Ten Minutes Away Baptist Church”. A 200 year old oak tree still stands in front of the church today and could tell the history of these grounds. However we sincerely doubt if it could thank our God better or give Him praise for His wondrous act of planting us on these grounds. Praise God, since 2010 our church membership has experienced an explosive growth.
